Hello fellow web-comic readers! Here is a causal update!
I’m sorry for the five month hiatus. After Expand Design finished my new website, I received I a lot of day-time projects to complete. It was wonderfully overwhelming. But I finally completed them and my budget allows me to take on my next night-time project for the Bright Abyss. You will not be surprised at what my next night-time project will be for the Bright Abyss. Just know… I’mma kinda gal who finishes the gun show she’s started. And I aim to double-please.
That being said, I have received a few emails from friends and social followers that they are having trouble when loading my comics on their varying devices. I have found a few life hacks to speed up these slow loading times, however the actual problem is simple: the Bright Abyss is a personal ad-venture, a small web-comic promoting itself through the larger meta-comic-cosmos. I run the Bright Abyss on what we can afford. I’m not kidding, our web service provider is a Tech-nomad and I’m a Mid-West River-folk Woman; our budget is pretty much MAD Max. Our resources are limited. So I wanted to make a blog explaining how to better access my web-comics. Here are some life hacks:
CONNECT TO A WIFI — Most of our PDFlipbooks are over 50 Megabytes. We try too keep file sizes below 60 MB for quicker loading times, but the most optimal loading speeds require a WiFi connection. Be sure to be connected, otherwise you can eat through your data plan pretty vapidly.
USE A WEB BROWSER, NOT INSTAGRAM OR TWITTER — I have received a lot of complaints from Instagram and Twitter readers not being able to load screens or web-comics properly. I talked it over with ExDes and the problem stems from too many apps opening within other apps. If you have traveled here from the Twitter or Instagram Universe, know that you are using the Twitter or Instagram App to open a Browser App that opens my web-comics with a PDF App. Yeah… it becomes a black rabbit hole of slow loading times. So if you have stumbled upon this web-cosmic absurdity from Instagram or Twitter, be sure to re-access the Bright Abyss through a Browser App to speed up loading times.
USE THE ARCHIVES IN THE MENU TAB — If you are like me a have outdated tech devices, you will still have trouble loading web-comics from here, evening after doing the two aforementioned life hacks. To greatly increase loading times on old or aging devices, Using a web browser app, click on the “Comics” in the Table Menu. Then click on the Web-comic you wish to read and you will be brought to a page that gives a synopsis of the Web-comic, followed by the actual comic in a mini-screen. You will not be able to go full-screen, and some of you may only be able to view one page at a time. But the loading time is exponentially better.
Be sure to frequent the Comics Archive this month. I plan to make a few mini-updates to the cover art in that section.
And as always, welcome to the Bright Abyss. Try not to blink.
